Maureen and Kathleen are sisters, joined at the hip. They have always had a close bond since their early years cutting dahlias together with their Dad in England to working together now in Vancouver. The fun and enjoyment of working with each other sprung the idea of the flower school.
Maureen’s signature look is characterized as romantic, elegant, luxurious and abundant. Her passion for flowers sprouted when she received a plant from her Grandmother that grew into 30 years of the love of flowers.
After successfully owning Thomas Hobbs Florist for 22 years, Maureen carefully decided to sell the shop. With her desire to share her passion and knowledge of flowers she decided to open the flower school along with her sister Kathleen 8 years ago. That is where Maureen now wants to concentrate her time, adding some new exciting classes with varying schedules. With a great new venue for classes and workshops, it also allows us enough room to have a gift and garden retail space called Gilligan Girls Boutique. All four sisters are now involved in this new venture, hence the name “Gilligan” - our maiden name!
Kathleen’s career path took a different route developing her technical abilities. Moving to Vancouver 10 years ago and joining with Maureen at Thomas Hobbs Florist has melded her creative and technical sides. Kathleen brings a different dynamic to the floral duo. Her perfectionism and attention to detail are a perfect combination for the creation of her designs
